Think Zelda is the only game for the Switch? Think again!

Posted on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, 01:02 PM, by Michael Meerovich, under Games And Sports, Holiday, New Releases, Technology, Video Games

The biggest criticism of the Nintendo Switch right now is the glaring lack of games. Albeit this criticism has not been that fierce considering how well the Switch is selling despite that fact. This could be because of the systems launch game was Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which is considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time. However, through all the hype of Zelda and the criticism of the Switch still at the surface of many people’s minds a game has sneaked through, a game which Nintendo actually promoted quite heavily, this game is called Arms.
A new IP for Nintendo, Arms has gotten a great reception despite being released in the shadow of Zelda.

Arms is a Multiplayer fighting game that puts motion controls to their proper use. You hold both the Switch Joy-con controllers in each hand and punch as if you were a boxer. Each time you punch your character arms extend towards your opponent causing damage. Your arms look very literally like if noodles were tightened up in a spring ready to be released. You move your character around a circular field dodging and punching to try to beat your opponent. All with motion controls! You should watch out though because each player has a different style and you must adapt to that in order to beat your opponent

Character Customization

To start out with you have 10 characters to choose from and each one has a unique skill set and ability. But that’s not all! You can go deeper into customization, each fist you wield can be changed separately, you can mix and match with which “gloves” you want to wear for each fight and each glove has different abilities as well. Some gloves are boomerangs which can avoid blocking and others are heavy wrecking balls that cause more damage. However certain gloves are weak against certain characters to you have pick wisely! These types of features add to

Bonus features

There is a 1v1 mode where you fight a single player, then there are multiplayer modes and mini games to practice your skills with like hitting targets and throwing your fists accurately through obstacles. Other modes utilize your skills for sports like volleyball and basketball which is a cool and unique way to use the gameplay.

Arms is a unique take on the fighter genre with colorful characters and a nice amount of depth will surely keep interest in the Switch high until the highly anticipated Super Mario Odyssey comes out. Make sure to pick up Arms at a store nearby for $60.00.

Fourth of July Appetizers and Sides You've Never Tried

Posted on Thursday, June 29, 2017, 10:54 AM, by Nicole Schurott, under Food, Holiday, Vacation

It's almost the Fourth of July, which means it's time to start thinking about what you're going to make for the party that you're attending.

Potato salad is always be  one of the best sides you can bring to a summer party besides mac 'n cheese, but maybe this year you're looking to kick things up a notch and make something so different and so tasty, it'll knock everyone's socks off!

Besides meat, potatoes and beer, what could possibly be more American than bacon! Everybody loves bacon and these bacon roll ups are so good, you won't be able to resist going back for another delicious roll.
For this recipe you'll need 2 cans of crescent rolls, 1 tub of Philadelphia cream cheese (Philadelphia chive &onion works just as well and has less fat) 3 slices of cooked bacon crumbled
preheat the oven to 375 F
Mix the cream cheese and bacon until they are well blended.
Separate the crescent rolls into 8 separate triangles and cut each in half lengthwise.
spread 1 generous tsp of your cream cheese mixture into each piece of dough
Roll up your crescent starting at the shortest side of the triangle.
Place onto baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Trust me... these are MUCH better served warm than cold.
This next recipe is super easy and requires no cook time whatsoever!

Cowboy Caviar
You're going to need:
1/2 cup of olive oil
1/3 cup of sugar (if you are not too keen on the amount of sugar, you can add less or none at all if you choose)
1/3 cup of white wine vinegar
1 tsp of chili powder (I don't like spicey food, so I leave this out)
1 can (15 oz) black-eyed peas drained and rinsed
1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (11 oz) can of super sweet corn, drained
1 red onion, diced
1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
1 cup chopped cilantro
In the largest bowl you have, whisk together olive oil, sugar, white vinegar, chili powder (if you added it) and salt
Add the black-eyed peas, beans, corn, red onions and peppers to the liquids and stir
Mix in the cilantro
Let the dip cool for at least 1 hour, but keep in mind, the longer it sits, the better the flavors blend together.
Nothing screams summer to me like a nice ripe pineapple. This next recipe takes salsa to new heights with a great blend of sweet and spicy, you're bound to love it!
2 cups pineapple diced
1/2 cup of finely chopped cilantro
1/4 cup of red onion (finely chopped)
1 jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped (depending on how spicy you like your salsa, feel free to add more or less jalapeno)
Juice from 1 lime
1/8 tsp Salt and freshly ground pepper
In a large bowl combine the solids (pineapple, cilantro, red onion and jalapenos)
add lime juice and mix to evenly coat the salsa
Season with salt and pepper
Allow at least half an hour for the flavors blend (at room temperature or chilled)
Usually on hot summer days, I don't normally recommend fish, but these freeze ahead crab appetizers, or Crabby Patties (as I like to call them) are INCREDIBLE
You're going to need:
1/4 lbs butter
1 jar Old English cheese spread (sounds gross but in these, it's really amazing)
1 and 1/2 tsp mayonnaise
1/2 tsp garlic salt
7 oz. can of crab meat
1/2 tsp seasoned salt
6 English muffins, split
I usually double the recipe cause it doesn't make much, put just use your judgement.
First, you're going to blend the butter, cheese spread, mayo, garlic salt and crabmeat together
Take your mix and spread a generous amount on the muffin halfs and wrap individually in wax paper
Place your paddy's in a plastic bag and freeze until ready to use.
When you're ready to use them, allow time for the crabby paddies to thaw and place in the oven on broil until they are lightly browned and cut into wedges.
